Local care home residents go quackers for animal therapy

Residents at Mount Hall Bupa Care Home have recently enjoyed an animal therapy session with fuzzy ducklings and baby lionhead rabbits.

The session was organised by Caroline Terrington, Activity Co-ordinator at the care home, alongside Inspiring Animal Therapy CIC, a provider of animal therapy whose animals are ethically sourced and cared for as pets.

The visit allowed residents to interact with the ducklings and bunnies in the lounge, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. Some residents were even able to have a room visit thanks to the incredible staff and animal experts who were able to accommodate everyone.

One resident, Christine Yates, grew up in Cheshire and has always loved animals. She commented: “I had a good afternoon. The rabbits’ hair was so long, it looked like a wig.”

Activities Coordinator at Mount Hall, Caroline Terrington, commented: “Such a fun, interactive afternoon with an array of different animals. It was great to see residents and staff getting involved, their faces absolutely lit up when they saw the fluffy animals.”

Joanne Angell Sedgwick, Home Manager at Mount Hall Bupa Care Home, commented: “It was truly a pleasure to welcome Inspiring Animal Therapy CIC for an animal therapy session. The residents had such a wonderful time, and particularly enjoyed learning about all the animals they were holding. Animal therapy is well known to be beneficial for residents’ wellbeing due to the calm atmosphere they create, and we are already looking forward to the next visit.”

Residents and staff at Mount Hall look forward to hosting more animal therapy session in the coming months for its residents.
